OUR STORIES

Without the New York for All Act in place, something as simple as a minor traffic stop can lead to our neighbors being abducted by ICE and families being torn apart. Too many New Yorkers have experienced this first-hand. No one should fear that driving to work, or calling for help in an emergency, could mean they will be separated from their family and detained or deported.

“What our lawmakers can do right now is make a promise they won’t allow this to happen to more people like me, or more children like mine.”

— Dalila Yeend, Community Leader, Columbia County Sanctuary Movement

I live each day worried about my safety and whether my family will be separated. Passing New York for All would allow students like me to learn and live without fear.

— Leonel, Youth Power Project Member, Make the Road NY

“More than fear, we as adults are afraid of what will happen to our children if they deport us. We want united families.”

— Alma Gonzalez, Mujeres Divinas

In 2018, Dalila Yeend spent nearly three months separated from her children, locked up in federal immigration detention after she was stopped by police for rolling through a stop sign. Listen to her story.

When Alma’s mother was stopped by police, she needed interpretation. Instead, the police called immigration enforcement. Watch Alma’s story.
